Les Chutes du Carbet

Les Chutes du Carbet

Description

Why are the Carbet Falls so popular?__Q1__

There are 3 falls, fed by the Grand Carbet River and having their source on the slopes of the "La Soufrière" volcano. The 1st fall exceeds 115m in height, the 2nd about 110m, the 3rd more modest (20m) but powerful.

The lush vegetation, the humid setting of the rainforest, the rock, the bird 's-eye view: everything contributes to a unique immersive experience.

What to do on site?

  1. Hike to the 2nd waterfall: landscaped trail, impressive panoramas, accessible (45 min. back).
  2. For the more athletic: go for the 1st fall (about 115 m), longer trail (about 3 hours back) and demanding.
  3. Observation of rainforest, endemic fauna and flora.
  4. Possibility to have a picnic break after the walk in the reception area.

Distance from Gîtes Blue Karaïb: From Fonds Thézan (Sainte-Anne), take about 40 to 50 minutes by car (depending on traffic & conditions) to access the Chutes du Carbet reception area.

Practical tips

  • Arrive early in the morning to enjoy the site before the rush and avoid the frequent afternoon rains in Basse-Terre.
  • Recommended walking shoes: Some stretches may be slippery.
  • Provide water, a small snack, a light waterproof garment because the humidity is high.
  • The path to the fall is more difficult: not recommended for young children or untrained people.
  • Respect the instructions of the site, only venture on the authorized trails (the 3rd fall is prohibited from access following a landslide).

FAQ__Q1__
